USBR 85 in California traverses the Sierras, beginning at the Oregon border. It is characterized by volcanoes, long stretches of forested countryside, busy towns, deserts, and orchards. U.S. Bicycle Route (USBR) 85 is NOT signed.
The route runs parallel to the Pacific Nat'l Scenic Trail for much of its length. It passes Mt. Shasta then heads through Lassen Volcanic Nat'l Park and to the shore of Lake Tahoe before ascending into the Sierra Nevadas. It follows U.S. 395, then crosses Tioga Pass, into Yosemite Nat'l Park. Other attractions are Kings Canyon Nat'l Park, Sequoia Nat'l Park, the Trail of a Hundred Giants, the Giant Sequoia Nat'l Monument, and Lake Isabella. USBR 85 intersects USBR 50 in Woodfords.
USBR 85 continues into the Mojave Desert. Other attractions are the San Gabriel Mtns, the San Gorgonio Mtns, the Anza-Borego Desert. USBR 85 ends where it connects to USBR 66 near Barstow, CA.
